Report N1 (added on July, 27, 2005)

I met this woman through army-of-brides. We exchanged many e-mails through the agency and after a week long meeting in Kiev in April 2004 she asked that I email her through her private address as it would be easier for her, after more emails we met once more again in Kiev this time for two weeks, I had wanted to meet in Mariupol her home town but she insisted that Kiev would be much easier for me, on each occasion I had sent her money for flights. In September we decided that she should come to the UK for a holiday, at this point the requests for money started.

Quote:
"you know I do would never ask you and believe me for me it s very embarrassing when I ask you to help me and to send some money. But you see, if I earned enough money I would never do so.. But at the moment my situation is such that sometimes I don t know where it would be better to spend them. Mark I hope you understand me .. I have nobody to ask and money won t fall down on me from heaven.
Tomorrow I will start the process of getting visa.. but I wouldn t be able to do this without money. as I will have to pay to the agency, I will have to go to Donetsk to take there the papers from my work needed for getting visa.. and then I will have to go to the Embassy in Kiev (for the
interview) - all this will be too expensive for me"

As we had been getting on so well I sent money to cover her expenses such as airfare to Kiev to obtain the visa and for accommodation and food whilst she was there. She obtained the visa and I brought this woman to the UK with great expense for a two-week holiday, during which we had a wonderful time. After she went back home we continued to email each other and send SMS messages and I would phone at least twice a week. The request
for money started to increase with her saying that she had lost her job and was finding it difficult to support herself and her daughter and could I help, as she had been to the UK and met my family and friends and we had started to talk of a life together I thought nothing of sending money. We made plans for her to come back to the UK for a three week holiday whilst her visa was still valid and that she would bring her daughter with her this time. I spent the next few months getting ready for her visit, as I do not have children I went shopping for toys and a bed for her, all the time sending her a little money to help her out. In April I sent her the money for their flight tickets and some extra totalling $2,489. Shortly after her receiving the money there were no answers to my emails, phone
calls and SMS messages no matter what I tried I could not get in touch with her. I now realized how stupid I'd been, that she was probably never going to visit, and that the plot was to get as much money as possible before disappearing.

Over the year we had exchanged hundreds of emails so it's not possible to submit them with this report. Looking back and when I put it all together, it becomes clear that her intentions all along were not very honourable but she always had a plausible excuse at the time which I fell for. My total costs for gifts, travel, hotels etc were in excess of $12,000.

Most of her requests for money came via SMS messages and ranged from needing money as she was not working to requests for clothes and driving lessons.
