Greetings to All,
I have read that email using the "The Bat!" X-mailer program is a red flag to identify these Russian scammers. I see that I have received one.(My e-mail source info is listed below). I had no idea as to the HUGE number scammers out there.

I did some googleing and of course came upon all those "Blacklist Sites" Being on a dialup connection - I had to make lunch while all their pics downloaded!! :) Oh my. Although I must say, I don't believe I've ever seen so many beautiful women on one webpage. What a shame.

Perhaps someone can shed a little light on my source info below.
It would be greatly appreciated. Better safe than sorry.
Thank You in advance,
~Bob

a: you should by rights, not post her e mail address unless you know she is a scammer. reasons are very simple:

1: for all you know somebody may write to her and give her a link to the thread (there are russians who read this board)

2: if she finds out you are checking her out and she is genuine, guess you understand she will not write back to you. :D

here is her trace:
81.19.66.30 belongs to rambler ru. it is not her isp
81.19.66.27 belongs to rambler ru. it is not her isp
82.198.27.203 is her isp
the bat she is using is a very old version
she is from yoshkar ola. or close to it. the pc she used to send that letter at the moment is switched off. (last few nodes are unknown which means the pc is not switched on. Longtitude and lattitude of where that isp originated is 56.667N and 47.912E ;););) ) Note: places like for example Volzsk show as Yoshkar ola on a trace as it shows nearest large towns. The longtitude and lattitude give a more details position. ************************************************** ****************

Thank you Nick - That was speedy work!!
(That neotrace looks handy - I shall have to check that out!)

I have removed her email info from my post - point well taken. Thanks.

This girl claims to be from Cheboksary. It looks like a long commute to the internet cafe to me. It has to be 100 km away - across the volga river - which is the in the next republic to the southeast.

Shall I quiz her on this? Or just post her pic & info on the blacklist?
She hasn't asked for anything, but it's early on - only 4 or 5 letters each.

Thank you much!
~Bob

Chekbosary is close to Yoshkar Ola. Some women will say they are from there as well because they know that Yoshkar Ola is known as scammers paradise. i would not worry that much about it. here is a link. when she writes check the time she wrote (not the time you received it). check against this link. if for example she writes at say 1am or 3am, you should know that at that time nobody in their right mind goes to an internet cafe. but the trace gave it is a dialup and usually internet cafes do not use dialups but either adsl or broadband.

http://www.worldtimezone.com/time-russia1.htm (when you go on the link, the time is "real time" so if it says for example 21:00 that is the time at the moment in that part of russia.

i would not just "jump the gun" and put her on the blacklist. technically speaking she has not done anything wrong has she?

just read her letters. answer them and take it from there.

Well that didn't take long...

I emailed her yesterday - from a different email account, using a different name and country as my own. I told her I had been on holiday for a long time and that I had just got around to checking my email... and that I had just discovered her letter. Which was, of course, all bullsh*t.

Sure enough - back came the response. (Within the same hour she sent the "real" me another letter) She used the exact same canned letter that she originally mailed the "real" me. She had even edited out one part that I had previously questioned her on, which was inconsistent with her follow-up letters. The same photo of herself was also attached to her letter.

She must be a beginner, or is not keeping track of who she approaches. She found the real me originally on "singleparentsmeet.com" website.

She was quite perceptive as to my character. Which makes me wonder if they are using any spyware software or a keystroke recorder? Are there any reports of that?

Thank you again Nick!
This is a great site.

well there are trojans that can be sent to a pc (which is why need good protection). also worth to use what is called a firewall and also there is a program called key logger. but doubt she is as sophisticated as all that.

perceptive in what way? did she know something "totally" private? like what sites you have been on today? (there are cookies for this sort of thing that can be put on a pc). or did she know what colour briefs you have on?

or was it "a wild guess" like they do in palm readings?

but as to putting cookies on your pc and key loggers etc i would not think so. they are after a quick buck not finding out your life.

have fun and remember........ happy fishing :D:D:D

p.s. BUT the decent ones do exist.
p.p.s. the fact she wrote to another name, with a different e mail address means nothing as well. technically speaking she is a free agent the same way you are. i have had 11 writing to me at the same time. now i brought it down to 2. i've met one. will be meeting the other one soon. then will drop it down to one person. its when you start talking about love and all the gooey, sloppy things that counts if she is writing to other men or not. and learn from the start.......

they suffer from unkept promises and also from lying. (unless she is really in love with you) ;);)

well i have written about 1 hour after you wrote. am not online all the time as copying some dvds.

so if it is 01:15 over here, you wrote about 00:10! which makes it 03:10 in chekbosary. cool...... :D:D:D

this is presuming you wrote on here straight away after you got her letter. even if you took one hour to write, it will still be 02:00 am roughly. does she not work?

learn to look at life in a logic way. you can solve lot of riddles that way. ;)

I calculate the time difference to be 8hrs. I'm Eastern time US. So her last letter (source and text below) would have been at about 19:00. All her letters are always sent at this approx time, I have checked that since the beginning. That would fit with her after work schedule as she claims.

More like a "palm reader". Her outlook on life and values seem to be amazingly similar to mine. You know, the old "if it seems too good to be true... it probably is not true" thing.

I agree about the free agent thing. What scares me the most, is that her first letter to me and my John Doe, both stated that she had been waiting for my reply and she was very worried. Well, she couldn't have been waiting for Mr. Doe's reply. Unless she has broadcasted so many letters she can't remember who is who.

In any event, her last letter is below. At the end of it, she references my previous letter, when I told her that my greatest fear was that she might just be a person who was playing a cruel joke on me.

I would value your impressions on this letter.
It is like fishing... fishing in the dark!![8D]

Bob,

Even a sincere woman can write to the different men to find her best match.
There are many sincere contacts that end in a dead end road, lost interest after some time, the glamour picturese did not fit the real person :), etc.
Just use your common sence, read some the topics here, do some Googling and you should be safe.
Good luck.

PS: Nick, thanks for all this info

use the online time finder. it is not a calculator. it is "real time in Russia".

she says she works with children. she will see lot of parents. russians like family life. at the end of the day, is this NOT what you are looking for? all russians will say "i want a nice husband. i want a family, i want children". i think you are speculating to be honest.

Read what Dutchy said. she is a free agent. so are you. UNTIL SUCH TIME AS ALL THE GOOEEY LETTER WRITING STARTS. ask her if she will offended if you write to other girls. if she says no then why are you bothered. if she says "YES BECAUSE SHE ONLY WRITES TO YOU" then feel offended as you have a liar.

why did you say that? NEVER EVER FALL IN LOVE UNLESS YOU MEET. i once went on a date. she told me she was 5ft 5in, size 10 and quite cute. she turned out to be 5ft 5in tall, size 24 and so big she had to sit in the back seat of my car as in the front her boobs kept hitting the windscreen! HOW ON EARTH CAN YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH A LETTER!!! it is beyond my collection. what if you fall in love and she does not fancy you when she sees you! or you may not fancy her! photos can be deceiving.

Note: C: in brackets means my comment. this is HOW I LOOK AT THE LETTER. it may agree with you or not. i am very outspoken.

Hello Dear Bob!!!!
I each time am glad, receiving your letters! (C: standard response)
It seems to me, that we already are copied more month because I
already know about you much! It is very unusual:) (C: nothing special there. mainly i would say she says she likes you)

Than you have been borrowed today? (C: usually this means "what did you do today"?)
I today was late on work a little.. I as the tutor of children should
wait, when parents of children will take away them home!
Also there was only one boy, but behind it anybody and did not
go...
In our kindergarten of phone also is not present, and on this I had to
take this boy home because was already
Absolutely late! (C: do not really believe in a kindergarden no phone. what if a kid swallows something or is hurt? how do they get emergency treatment?)
I have come to it home and was knocked nobody on a door, but a
door has opened..
Here has left the neighbour of this boy and has told, that his
parents those people which drink vodka much!
And she has told, that it is possible to leave this boy at it
on a visit! I have left it there and have gone to look my mail!
It is a pity to me of such children what can bring up from them??? (C: ok she left kid with neighbours until parent find some coffee to sober up).

Well it is fine, we shall not long and we shall hope for the
best!!!:):):) (C: can be interpreted she hopes the kid will be ok)
Every day I all am more convinced, that I want to write to you letters
and to receive from from you! Your letters heat up to me soul. (C: standard letter writing. they like to write a bleeding novel sometimes).

I want to tell to you about my first love!
But she was not mutual..
I went to school which also was from our children's home!
In my class very beautiful guy whom called studied
Sergey! It was from rich family and on this it did not pay
attention to such girls, as I!
Somehow time, in a dining room, we have collided, and because
of him at me the plate with meal has fallen!
It has led itself as the present gentleman and has given
me the plate!
It was very pleasant for me, and I have remembered this moment on all
life!
Then it has left our class, and I was more never than it saw!
I have overlooked about him, but always recollected, when looked
at photos!
Such there was my first love!
You can to me too can tell about the first love? (C: she is trying to open you up. there are two ways can handle this. a: tell her the past is the past. or b: tell her you lost your virginity at the age of 12 and at the count of 21 of women you have slept with you lost count. but somewhere in the region of 125 or something like that).

Dear, it seems to me, that we search for one and too! And we can help
each other! (C: somewhat intriguging what she means. ask her to explain what she means by this. two reasons: 1: if she reads your letter and answers your letter. 2: she can have something to write about).

It is a pity to me, that you can so to speak. Very much it is not
pleasant to me, that you think, that I can deceive you.
I am completely open before you, and you, are possible to tell,
reject me. Simply you do not suspect, as your words touch me... I
ask you to not do any more such. (C: this is not the army. shoot first ask questions later. Jeez!!!!! why challenge? man or foe!!!! ask "trick" questions. like ask what it is like in Yoshkar Ola. if she replies, you will know she gave you wrong town. if she says "i live in chekbosary" maybe she is either not stupid or, she is telling the truth. ask her about nursing. if she replies "i am a teacher". ask her her wages. should be in the region of US$100 to US$150 a month. ask her for pictures of her home town. but not challenge her and in such a short time of letter writing!!!!!)

In the street already late and me it is time home!
I with impatience shall wait your letter!

Katya

and please make allowances for mistakes. ever talked to a russian? go to a kindergarden. find a 4 year old and try to talk to that kid about life in general. yeah, roughly the same. ever been to russia? 8 out of 10 when asked if they speak english will say NIET. 1 will say a little and maybe say 6 words. maybe one will talk in VERY VERY BROKEN english. and online translators are not very good either. so read a letter once twice and try to find different meanings of what she is trying to say.

use the online time finder. it is not a calculator. it is "real time in Russia".

More like a "palm reader". Her outlook on life and values seem to be amazingly similar to mine. You know, the old "if it seems too good to be true... it probably is not true" thing.

she says she works with children. she will see lot of parents. russians like family life. at the end of the day, is this NOT what you are looking for? all russians will say "i want a nice husband. i want a family, i want children". i think you are speculating to be honest.

Read what Dutchy said. she is a free agent. so are you. UNTIL SUCH TIME AS ALL THE GOOEEY LETTER WRITING STARTS. ask her if she will offended if you write to other girls. if she says no then why are you bothered. if she says "YES BECAUSE SHE ONLY WRITES TO YOU" then feel offended as you have a liar.

quote:Originally posted by rjg381

In any event, her last letter is below. At the end of it, she references my previous letter, when I told her that my greatest fear was that she might just be a person who was playing a cruel joke on me.

why did you say that? NEVER EVER FALL IN LOVE UNLESS YOU MEET. i once went on a date. she told me she was 5ft 5in, size 10 and quite cute. she turned out to be 5ft 5in tall, size 24 and so big she had to sit in the back seat of my car as in the front her boobs kept hitting the windscreen! HOW ON EARTH CAN YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH A LETTER!!! it is beyond my collection. what if you fall in love and she does not fancy you when she sees you! or you may not fancy her! photos can be deceiving.

I would value your impressions on this letter.
It is like fishing... fishing in the dark!![8D]

Give the lady some credit till the contrary is proven.
Language and cultural differences are the source of many misunderstandings, as Nick says.
A lot of well educated women hardly speak any English, although they claim they do, because they understand too, that we are less interested in someone who does not speak English.
The women I have met are eager to learn and carry their dictionary all the time with them.

she understood the word "f**k" but when it came to understanding the word "have a wash" i had to find different variants how to explain what it means. in the end the word "shower" clicked. :D:D

I have to admit, it was sometimes a struggle in the past, dictionaries, electronic translators, translation software on the laptop.
The best place to learn a language is when the heads are on the pillow, as we say in Holland :D
I met two women in 2003 in Moldova and both spoke excellent English.

Hey Smoote... I believe Nick is on Holiday...
In his absence - I'll take a crack at it. I'm a beginner at this... but I believe that your e-mail originated from the city of - "Nizhniy Novgorod", Russia. (Unless they are using a live/remote web-hosted app to create and send mail from... in which case their exact location will remain a mystery.)

I would google that address she gave you... it may not be correct. I found a "Molochnaya" river and a dairy company spelled close to same way, but upon 1st glance I don't see any city with the name "Molochnyi".

Also you left your own name in that source code...

Be careful with those letters... read some posts...

Nick's post...
http://www.stop-scammers.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=346
is a good one to start with, it should be required reading.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the help. I just Googled "Russia, 184365" and came up with a city called Molochny which is where she claims to live although she put an "i" on the end of the name. And apparently it's close to Murmansk which she also claimed.

The only problem is "Nizhniy Novgorod", Russia is no where near Murmansk. LOL She claims to use an internet cafe so I don't know what the deal is.

Thanks for the tips on letters! I'm off to read Nicks post that you linked.

dnstuff.com is ok but basically all it is, is a whois. same information can be got from http://www.ripe.net/whois

dnstuff.com also may have a problem. some isp's are not allowed to use the service as apparently they have been pinged too many times.

the information given is a "wide" horizon namely based on the isp range in that dynamic group. it also does not tell you the location.

on the other hand a program like neotrace will give the same information and also the location of the isp. a further trace with ip scammer will tell if the pc is online at the moment of pinging and will advise which ports are open on that computer. there is also magic netrace that does the same thing as neotrace and will also give the whois on that isp at the same time.

you can also use programs to for example ping the computer at say 300 pings per minute which after a while will lock the computer and stop access to the internet or will slow it down to a snails pace......... but that is when she scams you. :D:D:D

Yandex.ru is kind of Russia's version of Yahoo from what I can tell. Yandex offers free email boxes same as Yahoo from what I read on Yandex home page. So if someone who lets say lives in Toronto gets an Yandex email account and accesses it through the Yandex home page and sends email with the account, will the email actually look like its being sent from Russia?? Does anyone know about this? Thanks
