Letter(s) from Irina Astapovich to Ward (USA)

Letter 1

My dear Ward,

It is so nice to hear from you. Thank you for your letter. I hope it can be a good beginning for our lasting relationship. I think that you've seen my profile but nevertheless I would like to say about myself in a few word.

My name is Irina. I live in a very young country Ukraine (It is the 12th anniversary of Ukrainian independence this year). I am 34 years old. I live alone. I work in a economist. My free time I like to spend reading books, magazines; watching movies or just walking along the streets or in the parks and squares. I enjoy the Nature and try to go at least one a week out of the town's bustle and fuss. I rest from the town being among trees and flowers.

As most of the women I would like to have a loving man nearby. One who understand me, who care of me. I would give my tender and warmness to him. With such a man I would like to create our family. And what is more we need from our life?

I want to know about you and your interests. And I have a lot of questions: Do you go in for sports? What music do you like to listen? Do you like dancing? What writers do you consider as your favorite? What meals do you prefer?.. and so on. I would like to know everything.

I'll close for now. I am looking forward to hear from you soon. I attach my photo to the letter.
Kiss you,
your Irina.

Letter 2

Dear Ward!

Thank you very much for your warm letter and photo. Your letter is full of emotions. I think our relations will be continued. I would like to get to know you better: about your life, what you like or dislike. Tell me more about your interests, your country. What is your view on relations between a man and a woman? What do you appreciate most in people?

I am sorry that you failed to find a love partner in Chernovtsy. Women are usually family oriented here and want to have children. As for me I am a widow. And I have two twin boys. And I quite satisfied having two children.

I have many interests and hobbies. I like to read classic literature and detectives. My favorite writer is Leo Tolstoy who wrote "War and Peace". I like to listen to the music, watch movies, go to the theatre. I engage in sports activities such as running, bicycling, swimming. I like to dance. I like picnics outside the town where I enjoy the nature. I am fond of animals, dogs in particular. I enjoy meeting my friends and spending my free time with them.

As for me I like your letters very much. I enjoy while reading them. It is so wonderful to know that there is someone who cares about me. Oh, I am not along in this world!

Dear Ward, I am very interesting in you and I hope you are interesting in me too:) I would like to see you face to face if it is possible. I hope it'll happen someday in the future.

I attach my photo to the letter.
Kiss you,
your Irina.

Letter 3

Dear Ward!

It is nice to hear from you again. Thanks for Jake's photo. He is lovely! I am glad to get to know you better with every letter. You was indeed very laborious while answering to my questions:) So it is my turn to answer your questions.

I live in Ukraine, the former soviet republic of the USSR in its past. 800 kilometers to the East of its capital, Kiev, there is Lugansk that is the town where I live. It is not a big town but I like it. There are many parks where I like to walk especially in summer when trees are green and flowers bloom. My town has more than 200 years of its history. The most intensive development of Lugansk falls to the period of the Soviet Union when many plants and factories were built. A great many historical buildings and monuments remind everybody about those times. I like to stroll along the streets that witnessed much. Usually I go in a cafe to have a cup of tea and talk with my friends. There are several theatres, cinemas, clubs and museums in Lugansk. Everyone can find the way to spend money and his free time. Lugansk is being reconstructed now. It is pleasant to see that my town becomes more and more beautiful every day.

I live with my two children. They are twin boys 10 years old. I am a widow. They fill up my life with sense.

Dear Ward, I am not strong enough in English and I don't have a computer at home. So I have to use the service of "Evrika" agency for translation of our letters. I think more important in communication is not language but communication from heart to heart of deeper feelings and thoughts in whatever words you can put together. I'll close for now, write me soon!
With love,
your Irina.

Letter 4

Dear Ward!

Each time I look for your letter and the chance to learn more of your character and personality. I find great joy in reading your letters and always gain insight as to your intelligence, your kindheartedness, kindness and gentleness. Thank you for the beautiful photos. Your daughter is very pretty! What is her name? I wish her happiness. Do you often fly on the helicopter?

So you found some photos of Lugansk in the Internet. How amazing! You see, Internet here is still not widely open for every one. All types of communications have been always a problem here. Although we have many highly educated people who making researches for modern means of connection. But Western companies usually purchase all their inventions and only then they return to our country. Sometimes even people themselves leave our country in search for better standards of life. We have here a lot of Internet clubs, where every person can use a computer paying for time of his work on it. Since a computer is still expansive for most of our people it is a solution of the problem in a way.

The agency "Evrika" is like one of those clubs but they do double work translating the correspondence for their clients. If you want I think that love must be the background of marriage. If two individuals love each other and want to create a happy family, they have to strive to mutual respect, appreciation and understanding. Trust must be dominant feature in the family relations. Both spouses have common goals and intentions, they have to help each other in their realization or be ready to console the loved man in his failure or grief. I think that one has to be patient to another point of view even though it is quite opposite to his. One's intention to further personal growth has not to harm the feelings of the loved man. Dear Ward, as you know I am not strong enough in English so I have to use the translating service. I have to pay for each letter so don't mind if I'll be not quick with my answers.

I'll close it for now. Write me more about you, the place you live, your plans and so on. I wait with impatience for your answer!
Kiss you,
your Irina.

Letter 5

Dear Ward,

I am glad to receive your letter. But I didn't get the translation you sent. I am grateful to you that you wanted to help me with the expanses for the translation of our correspondence. You know it is hard to find the money for the correspondence when I have to buy something for my children. But it didn't work, you can see in which form they received your translation. If you are interested I can ask the agency to send their prices for the translation service.

And now I would like to say more about my sons. They are 10 years old. Their names are Vlad and Anthony. They study at school and they finished the 5th year of study. Although they both have good grades I think they don't like the school. They prefer games and foolishness instead like most of the children do, I think. Now they are having their holidays. It means that they are free from the lessons until the 1st of September. It is a holiday, the day of Knowledge. All educational establishments start the year of studying on this day. My parents live not far from the house where I rent a flat. They are pensioners and they help me much in bringing up the boys. I worry about their health much though. They work hard on the Datcha growing up fruits and vegetables for me and for themselves. Because it is very expansive to buy everything in the market or shops. I try to help them on the Datcha and often take the boys to the Datcha, to be close to the nature and far from the bustle of the town.

I also have an elder brother. He has his own family and lives separately. Sometimes we gather together and talk much about everything. I'll send you a photo of all us someday.

Well, I have to go now. Write me more about yourself as well:)
With love,
your Irina.

Letter 6

Dear Ward,

I am glad to receive your letters. Russian translation sounds odd though. The technique still can't change a human completely especially in the skill of word.:(

Are you going to fly in the helicopter to your daughter's wedding dressed in a tuxedo. That would be very impressive:) I just kidding you see. I wish your daughter happiness!

We live in Donbass area. Lugansk administrative region is a part of it. Our region is well-known for its coal mines. But they are very deep here and dangerous for miners (accidents are very often). The government have closed many mines and people are unemployed now. That's why the salaries are very low here. "If you don't like to work you may go away" the employers say.

"There are lot of people who are eager to take your place". Many people go abroad in searches for a job even illegally. This is our life here. I heard that Western firms sometimes give the work for our factories and plants in order to pay less for the manual labor than they usually pay in their countries.

And our salaries is very low here (nearly 50-70$). We have a high percentage of unemployment. We had many coal-mines here which is in the process of closing that caused the problem of unemployment. Anyway we can enjoy ourselves. I think one should never lose hope. Some signs of improvement in economical sphere can be seen now. I'll ask the agency to send their prices to you and the way how it can be transferred to them. Thank you for your concern anyway. It is really hard to bring up two boys. Sometimes I am very short of money.

I'll close for now. So you'll be far until Friday. It is a pity:(
With love,
your Irina.
