Letter(s) from Albina Habibullina to Brian (USA)

Letter 1

Hello my friend Brian!

How have you been? How was your weekend? I hope everything goes well for you! I'm well but the weekend was not real good. I had to work on Saturday and was very tired. Unfortunately I have some bad news today. My mother felt herself bad yesterday. It seems that she got seek. She got a high body temperature and we decided to hospitalize her in order to figure out what happened to her. She will stay at the hospital for a week I suppose or maybe less. She will pass off the medical tests and we'll know how to cure her. I hope that everything will be ok and my mother didn't sick very serious! Actually I'm an optimist! What about you by the way? As a frugal person I fortunately have enough money to pay for her physical examination. In fact, I have always had some money for the unexpected circumstances. My mother is aged enough and her salary is not big. It's our Russian problem - old people have not enough money to support themselves. Old people have a medical insurance but it is limited and does not include the serious cases. So adults try to support their parents and grandparents as much as they can. Brian, I want to ask you if you have a similar situation there. Is it difficult to be an aged man in America? Brian, I went today to my agency and asked them if I could move to your town for work again. I wanted to hear the answer again. I wanted to hear something for certain. They were very surprised that I asked them it once again, but they confirm that nothing has changed and my wish will be satisfied and I'll have a work in your town or even in the suburb. So it's good news. I also let them know that I might not be able to set out by March 22 due to my mother's illness. As you know I had a reserved ticket on March 22. They told me that they can postpone my flight for some time. It's good either. If everything will be ok with work in America I prefer to stay there than come back to Russia. I think that my friend Katerina will be sad to see that I'm leaving but I think we will keep in touch via internet. Maybe someday she will decide to come to America as well. I wonder Brian, do people learn foreign languages there? What languages people learn? Everybody here learns foreign language in the school and continues in the university. I also heard that everybody there play golf, is this true? I have to say that I have never played golf and I think it is not so popular here. Tennis here is much more preferable. I feel that we are becoming closer and closer with each letter. Do you feel something like this? I do! I see that you are sincere and smart. I think that we could be more than friends. Of course we should meet first and only time will tell if we are a good match. But I want you to know that definitely feel affection towards you. I always glad to see your letters in my mailbox. Your letters brighten my day! We have the customary gesture here. When people meet they kiss each other in the cheek. But if they are very good friends they kiss in the cheeks and hug. I want you to kiss and hug me at our first meeting Brian. Well, I have to quit here. I'll try to write to you tomorrow but we'll have two surgeries and will perform the anesthesia, so I don't know if I'll be able to write. Anyway I'll try to drop you a line at least!
With great affection!

Maria

P.S. If you feel that I didn't answer some of your questions please review my previous letter. I do believe you will find the answers!

Letter 2

Hello my friend Brian!

How are you there? How is the weather? I hope that all is well there! I'm fine and the weather here is great! A real spring has come here! Streams are everywhere! Birds are signing and even the faces are smiling frequently! As far as weather everything is well here. Unfortunately I have no very good news about my mother. She is feeling better now, but the doctor still didn't find out what happened to her. He said that it is very similar to breast cancer. He told me that he will take one more medical test to make sure that it is a cancer. He said that it is very important to identify the cancer on the early stage. So tomorrow we'll know for sure what that is. My mother is an aged woman, she is already 58 years old, and that is why she needs a good care. She is now in the hospital where I am working. So I'll do my best to take care of her. I went yesterday to my agency and told them again that I need some time to take care of my mother. They said that it will be no problem, but I have to resolve all my problems in 3 weeks. After this period they can't promise me anything. They can find someone other to send for work in America and my place can be occupied. I think that I'll have enough time to resolve everything! So I have my flight postponed. Tomorrow we'll figure out what happened to my mother and I'll know how much time I'll need and reserve a flight. I'll let you know the date of my departure for sure, do not worry! After the couple of days that I have to spend in NYC I'll set out to your town. I wonder what the best way to reach your town is. Flying? Driving? Bus? Train? Please let me know. I've just understood that I've never given you my address! I do not think it will be very useful, but in any case, just so you know:
Country: Russia
Region: Komi region
Town: Yarega
Pushkina street building # 12 apt. # 5
I'll be glad if you sent me yours address so I'll know for sure, and will tell it in the agency! As you know I have two surgeries yesterday and it was not easy. I performed an anesthesia. Fortunately all went well, as usual. But I was pretty tired. I spent all day in a tension. Today I have some time to rest. That's great! I heard that blond ladies are popular in America. Is it right? I heard that some ladies even colour their hair to look like a blond! I'm in fact naturally blond and never colour my hair. Oh! Did I ever tell what my favourite flowers are? They are asters, peony and roses of course! Maybe, one day, you could present me a flower!
Well it's time for me to quit. I'll write you tomorrow.
With great affection!

P.S. I've attached a new picture for you! This picture was edited at the photo studio. I made it for you specially! I hope you'll like it!

Hello my friend Brian!

How have you been? I hope you are well! I know I promised to write you yesterday but I was not able. I went to my mother to see how she is feeling and I spent the whole evening with her. I hope this not bothers you. I talked to her doctor and he said that the original diagnosis is confirmed. Indeed my mother has a first stage of breast cancer and will need a medical operation. Her doctor said that it is very good that the cancer was detected so early. It gives us a hope that everything will be good. I was told that the operation will be by Monday. My mother will be prepared for the operation. She will pass the special course, which means a lot of different vitamins and other preparations. I'm trying to hold on and not to be very nervous, because the doctor said this operation is not very intricate. I hope so. As an anesthetist I wanted to perform an anesthesia myself, but I was refused, because I'm a relative. Fortunately we have enough good specialists here to perform an anesthesia. So I believe everything will be ok. I was told also that if everything will be ok with my mother after the surgery she will be released from the hospital in 5 days. As soon as she will be released I'll reserve a ticket to NYC! I do believe we'll have a good luck! Well, I looked into the prices to rent an apartment and I think I'll rent one. I think it will be quite affordable for me. Brian, I really want to date with you when I come. I think we should get to know each other exclusively! I want to believe that we could be more than friends. Tell me, do you want it too? I hope you do. Maybe within some months (weeks!) we'll live under the same roof. Who knows! Only time will tell. Maybe one day we could dance a waltz together! Do you know how to dance waltz? You definitely have to know it! It is very easy. I like to dance very much. I even studied how to dance when I was a young girl. It was so long ago that I forgot everything I studied but waltz! I studied rumba, cha-cha-cha and others Latinos dances. Waltz I'll remember forever. So get ready for the dance Brian! Well the weather here is frowning behind the window. It seems that the rain with the snow will come soon. It means that it would be better for me run to home. Actually we don't have many rains here, but the snowfall is a very frequent fact. Well it's time for me to quit here. I'm not sure if I'll write you during the weekend but I'll try it for sure. Maybe I'll find new picture for you, who know! Anyway, I wish you to have a great weekend Brian!
With great affection!

Hello my friend Brian!

How are you there my friend? How are your folks and friends? I hope that everything is well there! I'm just fine. The weather here is going to get better. And it fills me with the energy and hope. I visited my mother in the hospital this morning and found her in a good condition and mood. I talked with her for a few time and then I had a conversation with her doctor. He said that she is feeling well and her condition is stable. He also said that if everything will be ok she will be released from the hospital within a week! I was very glad to hear such good news. Since my aunt Vera is already here she will help me to take care of my mother now and then when I'll leave to come to NYC. I think I'll reserve a flight on April 6 previously. I think that my mother will be released by this day already and my aunt Vera will take care of her. My mother's doctor said that the hospital will bill us tomorrow. He said that her medical insurance does not cover her surgery. That's no good, but I think I'll be able to afford it. I'm sure that I have to help to pay my mother's bill since she is a pensioner. As you know pensioners here are very poor people and my mother afford it herself. Brian, every time when I see your message in my mailbox I can't stop smiling. You brighten my days, Brian! I never told you that I find you attractive, but it is so! I'm aware that you are older than me but I think it's rather good than bad. I have always liked men who older than me. I believe that a woman should be younger than her man. Do you agree with me? Brian, I want to ask you to do not judge me too strictly if I didn't answer some of your questions, it was a very hectic, nervous week and I could miss something. I hope you understand. By the way my friend Katerina told me to say Hi to you! I saw her lately and told her about you. I must admit she was pretty surprised that we grow into such feelings towards each other. She said that maybe someday she will follow me in finding the place for work. Who knows, but she has to learn English first of all, she speaks very badly. Brian, I've prepared a new picture for you! It was taken a year ago in Turkey. Have you ever been to Turkey? Turkey is the only place I have been abroad. It's quite affordable place to rest. You can see me and my friend Katerina on the picture. Katerina is behind me in the sunglasses.
I hope you like this pic. Well I have to go. Till tomorrow Brian!

Hello honey!

How are you doing? I hope everything is going well for you. The weather here has become good at last. My mother is feeling well and her doctor said that she is recovering pretty fast. I'm very glad that everything goes well for her. My aunt Vera is feeling good too. She lives in our apartment now and will take care of my mother in the nearest future since I'm leaving to NYC. I hope that friend Katerina will help my mother also. Well, I tried to find more money yesterday, but it seems that I took off all money from my relatives and friends already. I also tried to formalize a loan to my aunt Vera, but since she is a pensioner and does not have appropriate income to get such loan I was refused again. I started to feel that the things will not work out for me, but I decided to go to my agency and ask them if I could get an advance ($5400) which I'll get in NYC here in Yarega. But I was disappointed again. I was told that I'll get my advance as soon as I'll sign the contract. When I'll sign the contract I'll get this money in cash or they could be deposited into my account which I'll have to open. I was absolutely upset Brian. I asked in the agency if I could get a loan but do not tell in the bank that I'm leaving to NYC. And I was told that when I'll pass the registration in the airport I'll be check out completely - they will check my documents, baggage and my credit history! And if I have a debt I'll not be allowed for boarding. They showed the simple example: Let's imagine that somebody got a loan of $100000.00 dollars (or more) and fly away. In this case the bank has no possibility or law to return the money back. Brian, I have to confess - I made a mistake. I was asked before the operation: "who will pay the bill after the surgery". And I told them that I will. I have never expected that it will so expensive. I was told that it will be much cheaper. So I signed the paper where I'm figuring like a payer. What a fool I am! But what I have to do? What did you do if you will be on my place? I suppose you will do the same Brian. I do not know how it is accepted there but here in Russia it is very common when the children help their parents especially if they are pensioners. Brian, please do not blame me too much; I know that I did stupid thing. I learned my lesson well. But I do not know what to do now. My agency said they can wait 3 weeks and then my work place could be occupied by another employer. I know it could look weird but it seems that you are my last hope. I know for sure that I will not earn $970 dollars in 3 weeks, it's impossible. Brian, could you help me with money somehow? It will be not a gift! I want to borrow the money from you. I swear I'll repay the money back to you as soon as I come to NYC and get my advance. I believe I can send the money from NYC to you somehow, or I could repay the money when we'll meet. Please believe me Brian, I'm not going to deceive you! I have no reason to do so. My new life is waiting for me in America and I hope YOU are waiting for me too! Please let me now if you could help me. And if you could I'll give the information on how you could help me, ok. Please do not think that I push you to do it. If you can't I'll understand then. I know that many people in America live from check to check and maybe you have your own problems that need your attention. But I hope you will help me Brian. Maybe when we meet we will laugh at this together, but for now I really need a support. Well I have to close now. I'll try to find out something, maybe the situation is not as bad as it seems! I'll keep you informed!
I'll wait for your reply anxiously!

Letter 6

Hi my dear Brian!

How are you there today? I'm fine! The weather here is great! The sun is shining and there are no any clouds in the sky! It's 5 degrees above zero and there is a mild wind from the south. I like such weather very much! How is the weather there? I hope not bad! Today I feel myself very good. Guess why? I talked to my mother's doctor and he said that the recovering goes well. It's very good news for us! I talked to my mom this morning and I found her in a good mood. Brian, I want to ask you about if you could help me to overcome this situation, because you are the only one who can help me in this situation. I have already asked my relatives and friends about help, but they can't help me anymore. They said that it will take some time for them to come up with such amount of money. Brian, as I wrote you before I need $970.00 to pay the balance of the bill. I can get my money from my agency and pay the bill but it will mean to me that I'll not fly to America by April 23. Yes, I reserved a ticket on April 23. I even attached the a scan of the ticket for you. So you can see that I'm really coming. I paid $2000.00 dollars to the agency. So $1050.00 dollars were spent for the preparing of different documents like passport, visa, certificate and etc. And the $950.00 dollars is going to be a fee for the agency and I can get this money back. But I don't want to do it. It will mean to me that all of my intentions and hopes were for nothing. Please help me Brian. I don't think I have somebody that I can ask for help else. As I told you before as soon as I get to NYC I'll get $5400.00 dollars in advance, so I would be able to repay your money to you immediately! I know that you might think that I want to deceive you, but it is not so Brian! There is no reason for me to do so. I trust you Brian - trust me. Brian, I don't feel myself comfortable asking you about the money, but this is the only way for me to rearrange the problem. Brian, you see I'm very nervous right now and maybe I've made mistakes in my letter, but I hope you can excuse me for this. I have tried to find out if you could help me and my friends told me that you can send the money via the company which makes this service. I asked about it in the bank and I know now that reliable and fast company exists which make remittances all over the world and it's called Western Union. I remembered that I saw advertising of this company on TV. I've taken a directory book and found the address of it. The western union branch is located in the city of Ukhta. It's not far from me. You can see it on the I sent to you. I went there and I've asked them about their service. They said that a sender must go to the western union branch, give them information: THE NAME AND LAST NAME OF A RECEIVER, A COUNTRY WHERE HE MAKES A TRANSFER AND THEY GIVE HIM THE TEN DIGITS CONFIRMATION NUMBER TO A SENDER. THE RECEIVER MUST KNOW CONFIRMATION NUMBER FOR RECEIVING MONEY. They said that the branches of it must be everywhere all over the world. I have found out where is the Western union here (by the way, they have a website, called www.westernunion.com). There is no any branches of Western union here in Yarega, but we have branch of Western union in the big city named Ukhta, this is about 50 kilometers from my town. It'll not be a problem to move there. You can send the money using western union according following data:

Address: GAZPROMBANK
30 LET OKTYABRYA, 25
UKHTA , 169300
For: SERGEY KAMINSKIY

Sergey Kaminskiy is my bank agent. I want you to send the money to him because he is an official, and he can withdraw the money without any fees and taxes. In a case if I'll withdraw the money by myself I'll have to pay a tax. It is 38 percentage from the transferred amount! It is a lot of money! So it will be better for me to hire a banker to withdraw this money. I hope you understand it. As soon as the money will be transferred we will go together (my banker and I) to the bank. We must tell them YOUR FULL NAME, FULL ADDRESS, EXACT AMOUNT AND CONFIRMATION NUMBER (Money Transfer Control Number) which will be given to you Brian! Please don't forget to send this information to me, ok? I want to let you know that I need this money ($970.00) before April 23. So if you can please help me Brian. I know you wrote that you do not have money, but can you take a loan in the bank? I'll repay you all money and even give you your interest if you want. I also could help you with your issues when I come. Brian, I have never wanted to offend you somehow but as you can see my situation is very serious and I will never ask you about help if I had any other ways to make this problem solve.
I'll wait for your reply anxiously.
With Deep Affection for You!

Hi my friend Brian!
Did you find any money Brian?? Let me know. How are you there my friend? I hope all is well with you and with the weather as well! The weather here is getting warm. It's about 15C abouve zero! It is quite sunny here! You know we've got a rain! But in fact I miss a winter season. I remember the first days of the winter when I went into the street and I was unable to believe my eyes. We got 70cm of snow that day. Can you believe it?! Do you ever get huge snowfalls there Brian? Well enough now about weather. Today is the day when my mother will pass some medical tests. The doctor said that he have to be sure that everything goes well with her. I'll escort her to the hospital today. She has to rebuild her forces. She looks like a little bit tired. As for my friend Katerina she is feeling good too. She is going to take a vacation and go to the Sochi. Have you heard of Sochi. It's a town where the Olympic games may take place in 2014! I'm doing good Brian. I continue to work trying to earn money before my trip to America, because I know that this money will not be superfluous for me. I'm getting more and more exciting before my trip. Actually I'm afraid for a little bit. I have never traveled before so far. I wonder how is it could be to live in America. Would I settle down easily or I'll have hard times. I hope I'll naturalize quite quickly. What do you think about it Brian? I might have a terrible Russian accent and some people could laugh at me. I know that there are a lot nations live in America. Does everybody speak very good English there? Is there somebody who talks not very good? Well, let me know your thoughts about this Brian. I'd like to know.
I have to go now. I'll try to write you tomorrow.
Your Russian g/friend Maria.
