Report N1 (added on December, 11, 2018)
I met this person on the dating site, I don't remember who initiated contact, we exchanged text for a while and eventually exchanged email addresses and phone numbers.
We emailed each other on a semi daily basis for the next ten months.
She said she was trained as a phsychologist, but had chosen to be a florist after not being able to find good employment as a psychologist.
She only sent emails on week days (Monday to Friday), the reason given was that she only had reliable internet access at work.
I did phone her at the number she gave me on two occasions, and we talked a bit. I connected to whatsapp to message her, but got almost no replies there.
We discussed meeting and it was decided that she would travel to meet me. There are troubles in Ukraine, I would have gone there but was happy for her to come here.
I wanted to try and be sure that she was who she claimed to be, so I said we should show our photo ID to each other and sent a scan of my drivers licence, she sent a scan of her passport.
Things are not so great in Ukraine so instead of me paying my own airfare, I would pay for hers. I sent US$2270 for the air fares via Western Union. The amount was as I would expect and almost exactly what it would have cost me to fly to Ukraine.
Then there was the visa, I know it is not easy to get a visa to visit NZ, there is a minimum amount per week that a person must have for a visitor visa, so I was not really surprised that she needed more help with that. The amount stated did not match what the immigration NZ site requires for visiting.
