I met a woman named Elena Mihalchienkova through the Mingle2 dating site and we communicated for about 3 weeks. On the site, she claimed to be living in Seversk, Russia, but hoped to be moving to Germany soon for a new job with a pharmaceutical company; her stated age was 29. Immediately, she asked to communicate only through email (selionella@gmail.com).
She sent 11 photos, and we exchanged 11 long letters. In her letters, she professed to be single, never married, and living alone in a rented flat. Her father was an alcoholic who abandoned her when she was small, and her mother was living alone in a nearby village. She had no siblings and professed to be looking for a serious truthful relationship (consisting of "individuality, diligence, softness of character, nobleness and small sense of humour") leading to marriage and family. Her last boyfriend cheated on her, so she found it hard to trust men. She claimed to work in a supermarket, but also did accounting work on the side for extra money as her college degree was in accounting. She wrote long letters, answered all my questions, and sent photos of her friends, so initially disarmed me by her care and attention to detail, but things did not add up the longer we talked.
For example, although she was excited to be getting a new job in Germany, she could not remember the name of the company she would be working for. She wanted to hear my voice, but claimed not only that her cell phone had been stolen, but also that the telephone system did not work in her part of town; at best, she offered to call me from the post office, but never did. She claimed she could speak English well, but had to use an online translator to type in Russian and translate messages into English. She did not have a computer at home, but used her computer at work. Finally, one of her email addresses used the name "Helen Markova"; when I asked her about that, she said Helen was a variant of Elena, and she did not want to use a real surname in her email address.
To test her story, I volunteered to mail her a box of chocolates so I could confirm her address. She gave me her address, but the package was eventually returned as undeliverable. She suddenly stopped writing after I asked her if my box had arrived, as by then she knew the address she had given me was fake. Follow-up messages to her went unanswered, so she broke my heart and seems to be a scammer.
